Baldness Concealers: An Overview
Baldness Concealers: An Overview : For some people, the journey of losing hair begins with thinning strands and sparseness on the scalp.  This eventually turns into agonizing alopecia. However, worries and concerns can be somewhat minimized through the use of cosmetic hair loss concealers. These products are most useful in cases where there are still existing hair strands on the head, as opposed to overt baldness.

Medical surgery is available to permanently reverse the signs of baldness. But this is not an over the night solution. It takes months for new growth to appear and develop into the expected forms of coverage. But if a faster solution is needed,  hair loss concealers can help hide signs of thinning hair to make the scalp look fuller. This is a rather typical recourse for Hollywood stars who would never want to be on the pages of tabloids for the wrong reason!  Therefore, concealment products have always been saviors for them. There is a wide variety of brands available on the market which are usually sold as lotions or powders.

How Do Baldness Concealers Work?

When you spray hair concealers in the thinning regions of your scalp, the powders or the lotions conceal the sparse areas and also coat the thinning hair near the roots to make it look thicker.  Since this is a very quick process, baldness concealers work almost like magic. They can be helpful for photos and on-camera appearances.

Baldness Concealers: Examples

These days, consumers have many choices when it comes to choosing a hair loss concealer. Here is a summary of a few popular brands.

(1) COUVRé: This concealer comes in the form of a lotion and includes an applicator. It basically makes thinning areas appear nonexistent. What’s best about this hair loss concealer is that, it is economical and also easy to use.  Typically the number of applications can last for three to four months.

(2) DermMatch: People who choose this product often do so because it is made with botanicals and natural ingredients which are soothing and less likely to irritate the skin. DermMatch comes in a powder form which achieves a “shading” effect.  It contains ingredients that soothe your skin. The fibers coat the entire hair shaft. As a result, thin hair can look thicker and more spread out. This concealer does not contain any hair dye or artificial ingredients. It only contains safe colorants. Plus, this brand also claims that it stays on even if you dive into the pool or even sweat in the gym. You are free to brush your hair as well.

(3) Toppik: This powder-based hair concealer is made of organic keratin protein (A key structural material making up the outer layer of human skin.) These fibers bonds through static electricity to the hair and this magnetic force is supposedly enough for the product stay in place through wind, rain and perspiration. Toppik can be sprinkled into the hair or evenly applied  it with a spray applicator to the area on the scalp with thinning hair. The brand makes the claim that this concealer will enhance the appearance of the scalp in 30 seconds.

(4) Nanogen: Similar to Toppik, Nanogen is also made with pure keratin. The usage is also just like the application of Toppik. You can apply it by sprinkling it or using the applicator directly onto the hair.

Although they offer a quick fix, concealers can only create the illusion of a fuller head of hair by camouflaging low density areas of the scalp. But these types of products should not be regarded as the ultimate solution to hair loss.

Concealers have several drawbacks to consider. These concealers may begin to cake the scalp with time and can look unnatural under sunlight as in person encounters.  Most people who have used these products have expressed that, over time pillows, curtains and bed sheets started getting stained due to the coloration. Therefore, hair loss concealers are best used as a temporary solution.
