Bad Hair Restoration Result Repair Using UGraft Body hair Transplantation : In this example, Dr Sanusi Umar uses Body hair transplantation ( Body hair transplant ) to repair the head of a patient (also a physician) who has sustained damage from poor or bad hair surgeries performed years ago at other clinics. Some of these surgeries could be characterized as botched. The procedure is commonly called Body Hair Transplantation (BHT). This is an option for severely bald individuals or those that are donor depleted until hair cloning cell based hair multiplication technology becomes available in the future. Patient’s Background and History

This patient started losing his hair to male pattern baldness during his twenties in the early 1980s. At this time, he chose to undergo series of hair restoration procedures by way of scalp reductions followed by tempero-parietal hair flap surgery and hair transplantation. Since the use of follicular units (natural groupings of 1-5 follicles) was not yet available, the patient ended up with a pluggy hairline. Additionally, these surgeries did not account for further hair loss that was to come.

As the patient continued to bald, his results looked even more awkward.

Nearly fifteen years later in 1995, he underwent a hair flap surgery. This operation further compromised his low donor supply. And it also damaged much of the circulation of the circulation to his scalp, resulting in tissue death (also known as necrosis).

He later took time off his practice to undergo a scalp expansion in efforts to reverse what had been done by prior procedures.

After learning about Dr. Umar’s use of body hair and speaking to several of his patients who achieved successful outcomes using this method, he decided to choose this approach. His goal was to aim for improvement in his coverage, as opposed to perfection.

When interviewed, he stated his happiness with the abundant growth in the frontal and mid scalp and the new hair emerging in his crown.  He also remarked, “My results…could not have been more spectacular.”

Dr. Umar invented specialized technology known as UGraft which is designed with features to safely remove a wide range of hairs throughout the body. While regular cylindrical Follicular Unit Extraction punches are suitable for the growth angles of head hair, they may damage other types of hair follicles which emerge from the skin at much sharper angles.

Using his UGraft instrumentation, Dr. Umar compiled an abundant donor pool to achieve greatly improved coverage for  the exposed areas on this patient’s scalp.

The types and quantities of grafts used consisted of the following:

  • 8000 grafts from the beard area (face and neck)
  • 2000 grafts from the arms, legs, stomach and thighs

The total quantity was enough to restore a more normal looking coverage for the patient. His results featured here are shown at just the six month point, following his procedure.
