Choosing Hair Transplant Surgery
Accepting Baldness or Pursuing Hair Restoration
Accepting Baldness or Pursuing Hair Restoration : It seems that many people fall under one of two perspectives when it comes to hair restoration. Some individuals feel that it is perfectly fine to seek treatment, including surgery. Others maintain the opinion that accepting baldness as a way of life is the best attitude to adopt. But Dr. U feels that there is really no right or wrong choice. It really depends on how the individual feels and whether or not their choice is made from a balanced emotional state.

Accepting Baldness or Pursuing Hair Restoration

Genetic pattern baldness is the most common form of hair loss. However, many people feel a tremendous sense of self consciousness due to this condition. Yet, friends, family and even media sources often give the advice to just learn to accept these changes. After all, it’s what’s inside that counts, right?

To prove their point, they often refer to examples of exceptionally confident men who also happen to be bald. Accepting baldness and actually owning it as part of who they are is integral to their persona and source of success. These include:

  • Bruce Willis
  • Michael Jordan
  • Winston Churchill
  • Ron Howard
  • Patrick Stewart
  • Marlon Brando

Indeed, these individuals wonderfully illustrate how hair loss is secondary to the conviction that one has in their self worth. Those thinking of accepting baldness as part of life can look to them as role models.

And there are many instances where coming to complete terms with one’s hair loss is the best route to take for a particular individual

Accepting Baldness or Pursuing Hair Restoration: Hair Restoration Option

So does the choice to pursue hair restoration mean that the person’s sense of confidence, or character is somehow flawed?

Some people may be quick to jump to this conclusion. However, there are many studies which support the notion that we are wired to find certain beauty standards more visually appealing than others. This is even shown in babies who are shown to spend longer periods of time gazing at photos  of attractive individuals, compared to those who are less attractive.

Also our perceptions of beauty are strongly linked to mathematical proportions which define aesthetic balance. These standards are not just in our heads.

The hairline establishes an invisible division of the face known as the Rule of Thirds. One third extends from the hairline to the brows. Another segment is from the brows to the nose tip. And the last third is from the nose to the chin. Ideally, these distances should be equivalent in length for a true visual harmony. Hairline recession therefore disrupts this balance. And this is why the effects are perceived as being less desirable.

It is human nature to feel affected by physical appearances. And undoubtedly, this affects how others relate to us as well as our self concept. It may be admirable to cultivate a complete sense of self acceptance and unshakable confidence from within. But there is nothing detrimental about seeking help to look one’s very best. What really matters is choosing to do so from a place of inner balance.

While there are many bald celebrities who have not allowed hair loss to undermine their confidence, there are also many celebrities who demonstrate the positive effects of hair restoration procedures. Here are a few:

  • Wayne Rooney
  • Elton John
  • Marc Jacobs
  • James Nesbitt
  • AJ McLean

It is now becoming increasingly common for high profile individuals to openly discuss their hair transplant experiences.

Actor, Bernardo de Paula, of the Showtime series, Shameless, underwent a Follicular Unit Extraction procedure by Dr. U. He was tired to seeing himself on camera with progressively dwindling hair in his hairline and crown. The results from his hair transplant were extremely natural looking in appearance. And he was happy to share his experience on video.

Hair Transplantation and Healthy Expectations

Dr. U has helped numerous patients improve not only the way they look, but also how they feel about themselves. Many of Dr Umar’s Hair Transplant patients in his videos feature individuals discussing how much more confident and satisfied they are with their renewed appearance.

Patients are able to view themselves in the mirror each morning and feel truly happy with what they see. And this feeling undoubtedly affects how they carry themselves throughout the day and how they project themselves to others.

But anyone who chooses to undergo a hair transplant or other form of cosmetic procedure must do so with realistic expectations. It is important to fully be aware of what life changes one can realistically expect from their treatment. While a hair restoration can improve one’s outer experience, it will not save one’s marriage. One may have a wider selection of dating prospects. But a hair transplant procedure is not a guaranteed ticket to a satisfying long term relationship.

Surgery will certainly not be able to erase painful or uncomfortable past memories which may continue to undermine a person’s outlook on life and friendships.

Therefore, Dr. U recommends that patients really evaluate the expectations they have of their procedure in terms of how they anticipate their life to change. And regardless of whether one chooses to undergo hair restoration surgery or not, a continuous dedication to cultivating a healthy inner life will always be a worthwhile endeavor.
