The Sophistication of Today’s Techniques In Hair Restoration

The days of 4-6mm pluggy grafts are gone.  Hair loss surgery has become far more sophisticated with the ability to insert 0.8-1.2mm grafts.

AJ’s results are a testament to this. The results look quite natural and becoming for the singer.

Not only does graft size matter, but also the physician needs to have a great deal of skill. The concept of taking hair from one area and inserting it into the head may seem simple at first. But the process is considerably more detailed than most people realize. Here are some factors that are involved:

(1) angle of the hair
Hair often grows at an angle, rather than 90 degrees. Therefore, the doctor needs to be able to replicate natural angles and prepare insertion slits accordingly

(2) direction
Hair grows in different directions on the head. For example, it grows in a whorl around the crown.  In the back, close the neck, it tends to point downward. This is another growth pattern that a hair surgeon needs to understand in order achieve natural looking results for each patient.

(3) orientation
You might want to imagine the cross sectional placement of hairs as dots. How each hair follicle is placed with respect to one another is another element that contributes to quality results

(4) hairline edge
The edge of the hairline receives the most attention because it borders the face. When thick hairs are used, it is easy to tell that the individual has had a hair restoration procedure. Therefore finer hairs (e.g. nape) should be used instead.
