Is my genetic baldness from maternal inherited genes ?

Females carry the XX set of chromosomes. Males carry the XY set. If you are a male, you received your Y chromosome from your father and the X chromosome from your mother. For many years, people believed that androgenic alopecia is caused by a recessive gene on the X chromosome. And this explains why individuals believed that the DNA for pattern baldness came from the mother’s side. But as we now know, this is an overly simplistic picture.

The actual genetics is far more complicated than this basic high school biology paradigm.  Therefore, it is possible to inherit androgenic alopecia from either side of the family.  And medical experts are not clear about how this exactly works. In all likelihood, there are several different genes on different chromosomes whose expressions contribute collectively to the condition of noticeable thinning and baldness.

According to researchers, men who have bald fathers are actually 5-6 times more likely to become bald themselves.
