Q. In a BHT procedure, can different body hair texture and color affect outcome?
Can different body hair textures affect BHT outcome? It is quite common for the body hair to look and feel different from a person’s head hair.  The top priority as far as choosing donor grafts would be to select grafts that closely match the hair that grows on the patient’s head to minimize different hair textures after surgery. However, if this is not possible,  body hair with different characteristics can certainly be used.

Usually,   extractions would also include follicles from the head.  These would be integrated with the donor supply of body hair.  During the insertion phase, the head hair would help create a more even looking texture across the head.  This would prevent the formation of two distinct looking regions comprised of head hair versus body hair.

Again, if body donor sources that match the color of the patient’s head are not available, then hair of a different color can still be used.  Patients would need to color their hair to create a uniform matching shade.

The main benefit of body hair is the ability to expand the number of donor grafts available.  This would enable patients to achieve greater density and coverage than they would otherwise be able to achieve compared to head donor sources alone.
