Can Biotin Help With Hair Loss Issues ? Profuse hair loss is primarily the result of DNA. Your hair is mostly made of protein. And protein is made of amino acids.  Consuming protein rich foods helps supply the building blocks needed to create structures like hair strands.  Biotin  works to help your body process and make the best use of these components.

Genes for pattern baldness act as instructions with codes for creating weak and sensitive protein receptors on the hair follicles. Testosterone will break down into a chemical byproduct called DHT (dehydrotestosterone). DHT reduces the ability of the follicles to absorb nutrients from the blood stream. And weak protein receptors are not able to defend against this.  This is what causes the follicles to shrink and lose hair.

Biotin would not be able to ward off the effects of DHT. However, it can help the follicles make the most of amino acids that are already available.

Although Biotin is available as a supplement, it is best consume it from natural sources that have been processed minimally. Foods that are rich in this nutrient include:

(2) nuts (e.g. black beans, soy beans)

(3) cauliflower

(4) brewer’s yeast

(5) mushrooms

(6) bananas

(7) beans (e.g. soy beans, black beans)

(8) grains

Biotin is also produced by bacteria in the intestines. However, deficiencies may result from taking antibiotics which destroy these micro organisms.  According to Fitday.com, lower than average levels of Biotin can occur in those who diet obsessively.
