Doubts of Hair Transplantation Overcome by the Success of FUE Performed by Dr. Umar

The patient presented in this video had undergone three traditional hair transplant surgeries using the strip method at another clinic over the years. According to the standards of a strip hair transplant, his results were considered good. However, the results were unnatural looking even though it provided the necessary coverage, and the patient continued to receive uncomfortable stares at his hairline.

Therefore, the patient went to see Dr. Umar to find a solution to the appearance of his hair. Dr. Umar explained to him that the reason his hair transplant looked unnatural is due to the problem of limited donor hair supply that arises with strip surgery. Strip surgery limits the type of donor hair available and only allows for the transplant of thicker donor hairs, which thus imparts a harsh look to the hairline. The transition of the hair from the temples to the hairline was very odd looking, and the hairline was extremely asymmetrical. Additionally, the strip surgery did not provide all of the patient’s desired results for his hair transplant. The patient wanted density added to the front of his head and his crown. Most importantly, he wanted his strip surgery scar on the back of his head camouflaged.

Dr. Umar performed all of the patient’s requests by using 3,000 hairs extracted from the head and nape area, as well as 1,000 hairs taken from the beard to repair the scar. However, before going into the hair transplant surgery with Dr. Umar, the patient experienced a lot of emotional concerns that he dealt personally with. He was also concerned about the downtime of the post surgery and the worry that others will find out that he had a hair transplant. In addition, he was uncertain that Dr. Umar’s non-traditional approach of using body hair (BHT, instead of head hair from a strip from the head) to perform hair transplants would work.

However, the patient’s initially uncertainty has been completely overcome by the results of Dr. Umar’s work. As seen in this video, the patient’s quality of life has changed for the better significantly after 2 years after the hair transplant. His confidence is rising and he receives many compliments of how he looks at least 10 years younger.

The Gradual Process of Hair Loss and Baldness Fixed by FUE

This article's categories and tags:

Hair loss is a gradual process that becomes more and more prominent overtime for many people. It is normal to experience hair loss everyday, and the typical number of hairs lost is about 100 per day. You do not usually notice this because losing 100 hairs per day is insignificant when compared to the 100,000 hairs that we have on our scalp. Each individual strand of hair grows at a rate of approximately half an inch per month, and can live for almost 5 years until shedding and starting a new cycle. Usually during the 5th year, the hair will fall off of the scalp and a new one will generate within 6 months. Baldness is not caused by excessive hair loss, but it is caused by the inability of the body to produce more hair on the head. The density of hair decreases for both men and women as they age, but mostly men will begin to start balding before they reach the age of 30. The reason for most of these men to bald is due to heredity, but heredity affects women too, and approximately 80- million men and women living in American experience problems with hair loss.

The typical characteristics of male pattern baldness begin with the receding of the hairline which eventually leads to bald spots on the top of the head. Male pattern baldness also tend to affect men who possess more testosterone in the body because testosterone that converts to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) will trigger the interaction with hair follicles that are susceptibly vulnerable to the affects of DHT, causing hair to fall out. Women can also experience hair loss due to heredity and age, but they will experience it more especially after menopause and stress. The pattern of female hair loss is different from that of men because women usually have hair loss occurring throughout their scalp while the front remains decently covered and intact.

Dermhair Clinic specializes in FUE hair transplant (Follicular Unit Extraction) method of hair restoration to cure baldness and hair loss in men and women. Dr. Umar uses a scalpel-free, minimally invasive procedure that is one, if not, the best in the world. Dr. Umar also prescribes medications to treat hair loss for candidates who have not yet reached the point of full hair restoration and transplantation. First Documented Success Case of Body Hair to Leg Hair Transplantation

Leg hair Restoration
Leg hair Restoration
This picture presents a special case of the first documented success case of using body hair to restore the hair of the legs. The patient had the hair on his shins lost due to friction. He went through a failed attempt of restoring his leg hairs with thigh hairs at another hair restoration clinic prior to seeing Dr. Umar in Los Angeles for the body hair transplantation.

Dr. Umar performed a body hair transplantation surgery using 600 FUE-BHT grafts derived from the chest area and transplanted these donor hairs to the balding areas of the shins. From these pictures, the red spots left from the results from a previous attempt at the other hair restoration clinic are still evident before and after Dr. Umar’s treatment. Dr. Umar was able to successfully complete this patient’s leg hair restoration by using his own invented method by which he calls the Single Follicle Extraction and Transfer (SFET) method. SFET allows Dr. Umar to perform body hair transplantation in the most minimally invasive way possible by using tiny punches without using a scalpel. SFET is a breakthrough procedure and is even more advanced version of the popular Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique. Thus by using SFET Dr. Umar was able to achieve a case that could pass for the first successful body to body hair transplant.

Hair loss on the scalp is a common issue for many people, but hair loss can happen on other parts of the body as well. Many people are even familiar with the loss of hair of the eyebrows or facial hair, but they are not accustomed to the loss of hair on other areas of the body such as the leg. But usually since these less common areas of hair loss are less visible and exposed, many do not turn it into a concern. In this instance, the little bit of hair added to the shin gave the patient the satisfaction of not having an obvious bald patch of hair, which saves him from having others assume that the bald spot was caused by an underlying health problem.

The Effects of Propecia and the FUE Hair Transplant

This article's categories and tags:

Propecia (finasteride) is a medication that is used to help prevent male pattern baldness or hair loss (androgenic alopecia) that affects the vertex and the mid-scalp area of the head. Male pattern hair loss is a widespread condition that affects the head hair by causing the hair to thin and eventually leave a bald spot. Male pattern hair loss typically induces the problem of a receding hairline also which then leads to more balding to the top of the head. Without hair restoration methods like Propecia, hair loss is eminent as it is a progressive occurrence.

Finasteride  works to prevent further hair loss by hindering the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body.Baldness is mainly caused by the hormone dihydrotestosterone, which interacts with the hair follicles that are programmed to be genetically weak in response to the affects of it . Therefore, dihydrotestosterone can be considered the catalyst or active reason for the inception of hair loss and male pattern baldness. DHT does this by disabling the ability of hair follicles to produce new hairs, and thus preventing the hair cycle to continue. With the hair growth cycle halted, the affected individual will gradually see thinning hair and baldness appear on the top of his hair or experience a receding hairline.

Propecia reduces the amount of DHT in the scalp by preventing the conversion of DHT in the body in the first place to help hair restoration in most men. Thus, Propecia can stop further hair loss or might even be able to reverse some of it. Propecia’s effects in slowing hair loss and stimulating new hair growth are most effective when it is used for moderate levels of hair loss or hair loss that is treated in the early stages. For most men, Propecia increases the number of hairs on the scalp, and many patients taking Propecia noted a deceleration of hair loss after two years of usage, which is ideal for hair restoration. Studies have shown that nearly 80% of men who use Propecia have stopped or even reversed their hair loss to some degree.

Even though Propecia has no effect on transplanted hair after a hair transplant, it can assist to maintain the patient’s surrounding hair and is therefore useful as an appendage to head hair transplant surgery, and thus will enable the patient to obtain a better overall result. According to top hair transplant surgeon Dr. Umar, patients undergoing body hair transplantation should use Propecia with caution and consult before usage with an experienced hair transplantation surgeon.

The Experience and Testimonial of a BHT Hair Transplant Patient

This article's categories and tags:

This patient had three hair transplant surgeries using the strip method at a (in the patient’s words) “well known clinic in Beverly Hills starting in 2000″ prior to seeing Dr. Umar. At that time he was told that a single strip surgery would give him the results of full coverage of hair, and the scar would not even be detectable by a hairstylist. However, after the grafts from his initial surgery grew in, it was apparent that he would need more procedures in order to get decent density since the promise of strip surgery was false. His desire to also undergo a second and even third surgery was driven by the reality that the hairs from the back of the head are too robust and strong in appearance, and thus when transplanted to the hairline, it gives the hairline a harsh look while showing obvious spaces between them in a less than dense hairline.

According to the patient: After three procedures that the patient underwent within a few years, he gave up hope and decided the best he could do was to just move on with his life, while regretting having any hair transplant at all in the first place. As much as he had distressed over his rapidly thinning hairline, in hindsight he came to realize that it would have been much better to just have shaved his head and get used to a new look, without the shame that he feels now after investing so much time and money for hair transplants that produced such lackluster results.

The patient went on to further state that: Fortunately, by chance, he happened to come across something about Dr. Umar, and felt that this could be his chance at another shot to repair his head hair and hairline. He read Dr. Umar’s past patient testimonials, and liked how Dr. Umar focused on each patient individually, not just as one of the numerous patients in a room that he was juggling, which was the patient’s experience at the strip surgery clinic. The patient also liked the possibility that he could talk directly to Dr. Umar at the consultation because he was tired of the slick sales approach he had received before where there was a designated consultant to do the sales pitch at the strip surgery clinics. Most importantly, the patient knew he had hope for a chance of a hair restoration because Dr. Umar had developed a technique that made waiting for cloning or anything else simply unnecessary. Dr. Umar’s innovative technique that he invented by himself is called the Single Follicle Extraction and Transfer method, or the “Umar Procedure,” and this technique has opened the doors to new possibilities of using body hair as donor hair (a method known as Body Hair Transplantation BHT). With this innovative procedure, even the most severely bald individual can have his hair restored globally without sacrificing the crown or settling for an aged higher hairline. Dr. Umar’s procedure is a very effective and is a possible option for some severely bald individuals or those that are donor depleted. Dr. Umar is the top BHT hair restoration surgeon in the world, and he has performed surgeries that produced results that other clinic or doctor have written off as impossible. Follicular Unit Extraction: Aesthetic Value of A Hair Transplant Using Head and Body Donor Hair

This article's categories and tags:

The patient presented in this photo has a history of prior Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Body Hair Transplantation (BHT) hair restoration procedures performed upon him at another facility. These previous surgeries of his focused mainly on restoring his hairline, frontal scalp and crown. However, the patient was not happy with the esthetic results of the outcome.

Therefore, though intensive research and hearing recommendations, the patient decided that Dr. Umar was the best choice of hair surgeon to perform the repair of his past hair transplants. He wanted his hairline softened and the shape and direction streamlined to his taste. The aim was to achieve a subtle but evident change in the hairline. He also wanted hair density added to his mid scalp area.

Dr. Umar performed 3,000 grafts upon the patient using the FUE-BHT method under the Single Follicle Extraction and Transfer (SFET) hair restoration technique.

The breakdown of the donor sources were as follows:

Head donor: 1293

Nape: 597

Lower abdomen and upper pubic areas: 1115

This procedure highlights the importance of the aesthetic and artistic expertise of the hair restoration facility and hair restoration surgeon you choose. Hair transplantation depends heavily on medical science and is its own way is a form of art. The results this patient achieved also highlight the role of nape hair in the refinement of hairlines. The utilization of nape hair as donor hair is something that the hair restoration community has neglected since its inceptions, leading to entrenched paradigms that are not always evidence based. The front of a thinning hairline should be very soft, and this softness is rarely achievable by using traditional head donor hair, which are usually thicker and less ideal for the task even if they are single hair follicles, and thus they tend to create an artificial solid line of hair which could look harsh and artificial in real life. Therefore, the soft texture of nape hair makes it the most effective form of donor hair to create the most natural looking hairline. This makes it ideal for the creation of softer looking hairlines, while avoiding the harsh artificial look that is often the result of hairline transplants done by traditional methods.

Dr. Umar makes it possible for hairlines to be reconstructed with nape hair though his process of SFET-FUE-BHT because FUE Hair Transplant avoids the problem of creating a linear scar, which is the main issue that results from strip surgery. Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation- Scalpel Free, Linear Scar Free

This article's categories and tags:

The most common type of hair graft used in hair transplantation today is known as a “follicular unit.” The follicular unit is the most popular graft used because of its natural appearance in recreating normal hair growth appearance in “follicular units.” Hairs on your scalp naturally grow groups of 1 to 3 hairs in a single unit, and these follicular units are intact when they get transplanted to a recipient area. Thus since this type of graft leaves hair in their natural state of 1 to 3 hairs, the transplant will look more natural and undetectable. The follicular unit hair transplant procedure has evolved into a more advanced and minimally invasive procedure as the size of the graft incisions have become smaller.

The follicular unit hair transplant procedure has advanced into a more refined and minimally invasive technique, with the size of the graft incisions becoming smaller. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a method transplanting individual follicular units that are harvested directly from the donor area, without the need of making a strip incision in the back of the head. It is a new method of harvesting donor grafts in a way that is dramatically less invasive than the traditional strip surgery, which always leaves a linear scar while depleting the donor hair supply. Dr. Umar is a pioneer in FUE and has advanced the techniques into one of his own, which he describes as Single Follicle Extraction and Transfer (SFET). With this technique, the procedure requires no scalpels, strip surgery or stitches. Scarring and downtime are minimized. Best of all, because the transplant procedure allows for the use of body hair, the number of transplantable hair is greatly increased as a result of body hair inclusion. The newly transplanted hair follicles grow in a natural pattern from the first treatment.
The spots where hair units for the FUE surgery are harvested from appear as small red dots for a few days, but generally heal fast within the first week after surgery. Every patient responds differently to newly implanted hair grafts, and therefore testing should be done prior to hair transplant procedure. Therefore, consult with a Los Angeles hair specialist to determine the best treatment plan for your hair loss condition. At the DermHair Clinic in Los Angeles, board certified hair surgeon Dr. Umar will be able to diagnose your individual situation and recommend the best procedure for you take. Repair by FUE – SFET Using Head, Nape and Beard Hair

This article's categories and tags:

The patient shown in this photo had undergone strip surgeries at another clinic years prior to seeing Dr. Umar in Los Angeles. The outcomes of the strip surgeries created problems for the patient with the most severe ridging, a hairline packed densely with large plugs, and strip scars. The patient hid his disfiguring hairline by shaving the plugs and combing the hair of the frontal scalp forward. He was left with his original hair loss problem unsolved and ended up with the state of his baldness even worse than before he had his strip surgery transplant. Fortunately, he found Dr. Umar through the good reviews and words of other patients, and even more so, realized that Dr. Umar was an expert in the innovative method of Body Hair Transplantation (BHT). Therefore, the patient was now presented with the possibility of repairing his poor strip surgery hair transplant, since with BHT, body hair can now be utilized as a substitute for traditional donor hair that came from the back of the head. This allows patients who had head donor hair supply devastated and reduced by the scalpel of the strip surgery to have another means of obtaining donor hair to be used for hair transplantation.

For this patient, Dr. Umar performed a series of plug extractions to remove the plugging, reduce the ridging and make room for the placement of new natural follicular units in the hairline. Subsequently, the hairline was recreated using head and nape hair. The strip scar was camouflaged with the patient’s beard hair.

It is important to take extreme caution and extensive research before deciding upon which hair restoration surgeon to trust to perform your hair transplant. This is an especially major precaution because it is better to be bald than to end up with an odd look due to having a less qualified and experienced hair surgeon perform the transplant. Hair transplants cannot be reversed after it is completed. For instance, for this patient, even if the entire plugs were successfully removed, the area would still reveal the ridging and irregularity of the scarred pitted surface, which cannot be reversed. Fortunately, with Dr. Umar’s expertise and perfected method of repairing even the worst hair transplants, the patient achieved results that he is extremely happy with, and he no longer has to clip his plugs or resort to creative combing or hide under hats.

How Dr. Umar Uses Body Hair to Perform Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

This article's categories and tags:

Dr. Umar, whom experienced a failed hair transplant when he was young himself, understood the need for a hair transplant procedure that was both minimally invasive and ideal for men and women with different types of circumstances.  Follicular Unit Extraction – FUE  is a hair transplant method that involves small punches, .8mm to 1 mm in width, to individually extract each follicular unit from the donor hair area and transplant them to balding hair loss areas of the head, including the scalp, hairline, and crown. FUE was developed as a response to avoid linear scarring in the donor area that typically is always a result with strip surgery. Therefore, with the advent of Follicular Unit Extraction, the extraction of individual grafts with a micro punch leads to the absence of a linear scar on the back of the head, as is customary with traditional strip surgeries.

Single Follicle Extraction Transfer is a minimally-invasive hair transplant treatment that requires no scalpels, stitches, or strip surgery. Scarring and downtime are minimized due to this innovation procedure. With SFET Follicular Unit Extraction, hairs are removed from the back and sides of the head individually, one at a time, leaving very tiny wounds, hardly noticeable, that heal to leave no cosmetically significant signs of scarring within a few days of the surgery, it being an out-patient procedure. The results that SFET FUE produces will allow the patient to be able to style and cut their hair short if they wish, since no scar will be present. Dr. Umar pioneered this process years ago at its infancy while developing his tools, leading to an advanced form of FUE called Single Follicle Extraction and Transfer – SFET, which allows for the use of body hair in transplantation  (BHT). This new possibility of body hair transplantation (BHT) has lead to the option and ability of gaining more donor hair supply with body hair for many patients, from many parts of the body including the beard, chest, and arms. Those who have low donor hair supply or have had their donor hairs decimated from previous hair transplant strip surgeries now have a way of finally achieving the hair restoration they really sought. Dr. Sanusi Umar is the top BHT-FUE-SFET hair doctor in the world, and has performed many successful hair transplant cases with his skills, know-how, expertise, and innovative methods.
