I started losing hair in my late teens quickly progressing to a Norwood 6 in my early twenties. The loss of my hair was devastating. At that time, in the early 1990′s only strip procedures were available to correct hair loss. I began in 1995 with my first strip procedure off 500 grafts and after 6 additional strip procedures from 5 different doctors I felt like I was back where I started. I had very little growth to show for it and spent tens of thousands of dollars. Because of the numerous scars that I had after 7 total strip procedures I was forced to wear a hairpiece for the next 13 years.
After having a small scalp FUE session to construct a hairline in front of my hairpiece done in 2000 I thought it was my last chance to have hair transplants since I did not have enough scalp hair to cover a very large Norwood 6 area and body hair transplants were not thought of at that time. I felt that I would be forced to wear a hairpiece for a lifetime due to my vast scar damage. In 2005 I found Dr. Umar on Hairsite.com and my life changed almost instantly with the advancement of body hair transplants(BHT). After my first consult with Dr. Umar via email he was very upfront about what I would need to meet my expectations for full restoration. His estimate was 18,000 grafts. At the same time he has made transplants affordable enough that I could actually have a lot of workdone. I had paid $12.00/graft from another doctor in the past. His pricing of $5.00/graft made it much easier to finance and with his 15 year experience as a dermatologist I knew that I was in good hands. Now after 3 trips to Dr. Umar and a graft count of almost 14,000 – my life is at a new level. I get so many compliments and most importantly when I look at myself and my great head of hair – I can smile. Dr Umar is a true perfectionist and most importantly after dealing with hair loss himself he is a great person who understands how hair loss affects self esteem and day to day life.
I have only about 4000 grafts left to total 18,000 grafts and to achieve for me what will be full restoration from a Norwood 6. I hope to complete this by the end of 2006. I never could have achieved this goal in less than 1-year time without Dr. Umar and his expertise. He is changing the field with his constant advancements and raising the standards making it so that everyone has access to quality hair transplants. I am indebted to him for changing my life!
