What are the hair restoration drug treatment options available out there? At the moment, there are two hair loss medications which have been approved by the FDA.  These include:

(1) Rogaine (Minoxidil)

(2) Propecia (Finasteride)

Minoxidil is a topical medication. It helps increase blood flow to the hair follicles. It is also believed to support the activity of prostaglandins in the body which help grow hair. Some of these molecules help to extend the anagen growth phase of the hair life cycle.

Finasteride  is an oral prescription drug. It helps lower the concentration levels of DHT in the blood stream. It blocks the alpha reductase enzyme which causes testosterone to break down into DHT.

A doctor may prescribe ancillary drugs to help improve the performance of these medications. An example might include Ketoconazole shampoo which has anti-inflammatory properties and can occupy the sites of androgen receptors on the hair follicles.  Tretinoin may also be prescribed to help increase the skin’s permeability and ultimate receptivity to minoxidil.

hair restoration drug treatment options include Topical Minoxidil 2 and 5% as well as oral finasteride
Rogaine is a hair loss medication that can be applied topically to increase blood flow to the scalp and help reduce the extent of hair loss.
