Hair Transplants at a Young Age

September 2nd, 2010

Sometimes, males and females start to experience hair loss at a very young age. At that point, they are not ready to accept the fact that they are experience such balding. The victim has hope for a hair loss reversal and miraculous re-growth of their hair; but obviously, that cannot happen. At that point, younger people start to seek for a hair transplant . Some that have done extensive research may even opt for  body hair transplantation.

There are five common causes for hair loss in younger people. The first common cause of hair loss is tinea capitis—a condition cause by a fungus that invades the hair shaft and causes the hair to break. This is most commonly found in children especially those of school going age. The next is alopecia areata which is the sudden appearance of one or more totally bald areas in the scalp (patchy hair loss). Traction alopecia, or physical damage to the hair, is another common cause of hair loss. More common in girls, the hair does not respond well to many physical and chemical reactions it has to endure. It is commonly a result of hair grooming practices especially in women of color. Practices like hair braiding, the use of extensions and the use of hot combs as well as tight pony tails. The fourth common cause of hair loss is trichotillomania—the compulsion to pull out one’s own hair. The last common form of hair loss is called telogen effluvium, which is when a illness or stress-related event causes the hair to shed. If these conditions are not the cause of the hair loss, often times if such balding is a prevalent issue in the family, then losing hair will be inevitable.

Before pursuing a hair transplant, the young adult, who is losing hair, should consult a doctor. However, as with any condition, the sooner hair restoration treatment is initiated, the better. Patients, who have hair loss early in life, should be prepared for further hair loss in the future. Therefore, having a hair transplant at the current moment may not be beneficial because chances are, balding will continue in the future. So before going through with a hair transplant, the young patient should understand that another hair restoration will most likely be necessary in the future. Younger aged patients should first consider using medical treatments such as minoxidil and finasteride for this reason before opting for a hair transplant . If you do have questions and/or concerns about your hair loss, and are considering a hair transplant such asbody hair transplantation, come see Dr. Umar at DermHair Clinic in Los Angeles. He’ll be more than happy to be of assistance.

Body Hair Transplant Patient Testimonial

September 2nd, 2010

A 54-year-old physician, who like many other young adults suffering from hair loss, began to experience crown and frontal hair loss in his early twenties.  During that time, he perused a generic 2-scalp reduction and hair transplant to the frontal area from the well-known Los Angeles ‘mill,’ without any regard for potential future balding. Due to that unsuccessful hair restoration, his baldness progressed shortly after and what resulted were frontal grafts that were too “pluggy”, an unnatural frontal hairline, hair placed in the wrong direction, scarring in the recipient area, donor scarring, and a depleted donor supply.

After experiencing such unfortunate consequences, he had another hair restoration from a well-established Los Angeles surgeon. The hair transplant should have never been done since he had very little donor hair supply and compromised donor circulation. The patient also had necrosis—death of the tissue—at the distal ends of both flaps; all a result of his first hair transplant.

Finally, this past year, the patient started looking into possibly having a body hair transplant, specifically one that uses the most advanced follicular unit extraction methods. He was hesitant at first due to having such a horrible hair restoration in the past. After undergoing a body hair transplant, the patient could not have been any more happier. As seen in the video, there was absolutely no shedding. There was also immediate100% growth in the frontal and mid-scalp areas as well as current growth now occurring in the crown. The patient described his hair transplant, using such an advanced follicular unit extraction procedure, as a complete transformation.

Like it has done for the physician, a body hair transplant offers great hope for people suffering from such hair loss, especially one that uses techniques from a follicular unit extraction procedure. Sometimes a previous hair transplant leaves patients with unpleasant results. A body hair transplant can be a solution to those problems. Dr. Umar at DermHair Clinic is one of the few doctors who can perform such a hair restoration. Come by for a free consultation and he will be sure to assess the best possible treatment for you.

Body Hair Transplantation Versatility

August 24th, 2010

After undergoing his own poor hair transplant, Dr. Umar at DermHair Clinic created a new hair restoration procedure, known as the Body Hair Transplantation, for those suffering from hair loss. A more advanced version of Follicular Unit Extraction, Body Hair Transplantation is becoming more popular. With rapid healing rates and better overall yield and growth of transplanted hair follicles on the scalp, the new hair transplant procedure removes single individual strands of hair to the area of need. Minimally invasive and requiring no scalpels, strip surgery, or stitches, there is very little downtime and absolutely no scar. Unlike Follicular Unit Extraction, the newly transplanted hair follicles grow in a natural pattern starting from the first hair restoration treatment and patients are able to return to their normal lives immediately.

Body Hair Transplantation is extremely versatile, differing from a more traditional hair transplant. As implied by its name, Body Hair Transplantation can safely remove hair from anywhere on the body-head, face, legs, arms, etc-and transfer it to the area in need. In other words, unlike Follicular Unit Extraction, the hair transplant can use only head hair, only body hair, or both head and body hair, depending on the patient. With that, Body Hair Transplantation is able to add the entire body-hair supply to the donor resource, which allows even those who are severely bald or suffering from hair loss, to aim for fuller and better hair restoration.

For those suffering from hair loss, Body Hair Transplantation is the best solution. Being extremely versatile, the advanced version of Follicular Unit Extraction fits everyone’s own needs. If you have any questions about this new hair transplant, come see Dr. Umar at DermHair Clinic and he will be sure to answer all of your questions.

The Body Hair Transplantation Procedure Day

August 23rd, 2010
Dr. Umar has created a more advanced procedure of the Follicular Unit Extraction, known as the Single follicle extraction and transfer with which he has found significance success in Body Hair Relocation, as a solution for hair loss. In this hair restoration procedure, individual hairs are safely removed from anywhere on the head, face, and body and transferred to the area of need, where they are transplanted. The Body Hair Transplantation has rapid healing rates and better overall yield and growth of transplanted hair follicles in comparison to more traditional hair transplants. The minimally invasive procedure requires no scalpel, strip surgery, or stitches. And best of all, Body Hair Transplantation is linear scar-free. The newly transplanted hairs grow in a natural pattern from the first treatment and patients are able to return to their normal life almost immediately.

So what does procedure day entitle? When a patient comes in for a Body Hair Transplantation, they walk in and are always taken back by the degree of comfort from the very beginning. Like other typical hair transplants, patients take a mild sedative orally to start the procedure. The hair restoration is done with patient lying or sitting on the custom-made, highly versatile operating table. The whole Body Hair Transplantation is done under local anesthesia. Most patients even are awake watching a movie of their choice during the procedure. Patients, suffering from hair loss, are able to take breaks during the process and lunch is served in patient’s clinic patio, with a calming view of the Pacific Ocean right in front of them. Most patients do not require even ordinary over-the-counter painkillers after the hair restoration. The advanced Follicular Unit Extraction procedure that Dr. Umar has created has been thought out and perfected down to the very core to ensure patient comfort and ultimate success in comparison to other hair transplants.

So as you can see, the Body Hair Transplantation at DermHair Clinic is a one-of-a-kind hair restoration that more people are considering and undergoing. As a more advanced version of Follicular Unit Extraction, the hair transplant may be the right choice for you. Come by DermHair and be sure to schedule a free consultation with Dr. Umar so he can assess what is the best possible treatment for your hair loss.

Eyebrow Transplants to Help Restore Your Eyebrows

August 19th, 2010

Sometimes people are born without enough hair on their eyebrows, or got in an accident where their eyebrows have been removed, and need eyebrow restoration. An up and coming procedure that most people do not know about is eyebrow transplants, using a method such as Follicular Unit Extraction. Eyebrow transplants are very different from hair transplants. First off, eyebrow hair grows from a very small angle along the skin. Eyebrow hairs emerge from the follicle at a very acute angle; therefore the hair grows flat to the skin’s surface. Scalp hair, on the other hand, grows at an angle of 45 degrees. Also, eyebrow hair growth cycles are much shorter than scalp hair growth cycles. The anagen growth phase of eyebrow hair lasts only about 4 months, while scalp hair in anagen phase can last anywhere from 3 to 7 years. In addition, eyebrow hairs grow in dramatically different directions throughout the entire eyebrow. The hairs also grow as individual strands with no follicular groups; unlike the scalp, which grows 2 to 4 hairs in follicular groups.

Dr. Umar at DermHair Clinic in Los Angeles, California has created a Follicular Unit Extraction procedure that uses either body or head hair follicles to transplant and in order to reconstruct the eyebrows and enable eyebrow restoration. Unlike hair transplants where the donor hair is taken from another part of the scalp, the donor hair for eyebrow transplants is taken from another part of the body and will therefore have slightly different characteristics in both growth rate and appearance. If they are different, over time the transplanted scalp hair will slowly begin to approximate the growth pattern and characteristics of the existing eyebrow hairs-but it may never match it exactly. Eyebrow transplants using traditional strip method of hair transplants limits donor options to the hair in the “safe zone.” These thick terminal hairs contrast sharply with normal eyebrow hair quality, which is short, finer, and straight. One upside and potential downside with eyebrow hair transplants is that the eyebrow hairs will continue to grow, which may need constant trimming.

DermHair Clinic is the only clinic in Los Angeles that offers this eyebrow transplant procedure, using Follicular Unit Extraction. So be sure to take advantage if you are one person who needs an eyebrow hair restoration.

Benefits of Body Hair Transplantations

August 18th, 2010

Dr. Umar at DermHair Clinic has created a new hair transplant procedure, known as Body Hair Transplantation, to help those suffering from hair loss. As the latest hair restoration treatment, Body Hair Transplantation is a minimally invasive procedure that results in rapid healing rates and better overall yield and growth of transplanted hair follicles on the scalp. During the procedure, hairs are removed from the back and sides of the head one at a time, leaving very tiny punch wounds. The tiny punch wounds leave no significant signs of scarring within a few days of hair transplant.

So why exactly is Body Hair Transplantation the best hair restoration procedure out there? Well, Body Hair Transplantation requires no scalpels, strip surgery, and no stitches. Unlike a more traditional hair transplant that requires cutting a slice of flesh from the back and side of the head, Body Hair Transplantation is linear scar-free. And best of all, because the procedure allows for the use of body hair, the number of transplantable hair is greatly increased. The newly transplanted hair follicles then grow in a natural pattern from the first hair restoration treatment. In addition, Body Hair Transplantation adds the entire body-hair supply to the donor resource, allowing even those who are severely bald or suffering from hair loss to aim for fuller and better hair restoration in ways that are not possible with a more traditional hair transplant. Patients who have undergone the Body Hair Transplantation procedure have been able to return to their daily lives immediately; many of which do not need to cover their head with a hat or suffer from hair loss ever again.

Dr. Umar has perfected the Body Hair Transplantation down to the very core. If you are someone who is suffering from hair loss, come to DermHair Clinic for a free consultation and you’ll be sure to leave with a full body of hair.

Services Offered at DermHair Clinic

August 16th, 2010

At DermHair Clinic, Dr. Umar and his staff put all of their effort towards restoring hair and the confidence ravaged by the effect of baldness or other unsuccessful hair transplants. And in order to do so, Dr. Umar created invented tools to enhance the latest and most microsurgical procedure in hair restorationSingle Follicle Extraction and Transfer. The hair transplant is scalpel free and utilizes the latest techniques to harvest each hair unit one at a time. As the more advanced form of Follicular Unit Extraction, these individual hairs are transplanted in the most natural way. The hair transplant is so minimally invasive that the surgery leaves only tiny wounds, which typically heal within days.

DermHair Clinic offers many more services other than Single Follicle Extraction and Transfer. With his breakthrough procedure, Dr. Umar is also able to transplant hair from various parts of the body to the balding areas of the head. Similar to Follicle Unit Extraction, the Body Hair Transplantation extracts hair follicles one at a time. All body hair can be utilized for hair transplants including the back of the chest, stomach area, back, legs, arms, armpits, and pubic areas.

If Body Hair Transplantation is not the right match for a patient, Dr. Umar can also do Single Follicle Extraction and Transfer using only head hair—the head and nape. The follicular unit is the most superior because its graft offers a more natural appearance and recreation for normal hair restoration.

A few other services that Dr. Umar offers at DermHair Clinic include eyebrow transplantation, Latisse eyelash treatment, and even other hair restoration procedures for balding areas like the legs, pubic area, beards, chest etc. Like other typical hair transplants, the eyebrow transplantation helps patients who have lost their eyebrows regain growth and hair restoration using body hair and nape hair from the patient with the Body Hair Transplantation method. Latisse eyelash treatment helps those who want to experience fuller, thick, and darker upper eyelashes. And lastly, Dr. Umar is known for curing those with special cases including those who need hair transplants on other parts of their body. He uses either the body or head hair follicles derived by Follicular Unit Extraction or Single Unit Extraction and Transfer to give patients the best possible hair restoration.

So as you can see, Dr. Umar at DermHair Clinic offers a number of different services that range from Body Hair Transplantation to eyebrow transplantation. He is even able to help women with their special hair restoration cases. Come by for a free consultation and see what hair transplants or other services are best for you.

Be Proactive About Your Follicle Unit Extraction

August 12th, 2010

As the benefits for Follicle Unit Extraction is increasing, more and more people are beginning to resort to the Body Hair Transplantation to cure their hair loss. As patients research, they find that Body Hair Transplantation is linear scar-free and scalpel-free. Apart from graft placement, no technicians should be performing the fue hair transplant except for the dermatologist; there are not stitches after the hair restoration; and there is no use of mass production graft-damaging machines. In addition, your body and head hairs are used to treat the needed hair loss area and patients have the freedom to style their hair anyway they want.

So it is no surprise why Follicle Unit Extraction is becoming the most popular hair transplant for those suffering from hair loss. But patients must be careful-in an effort to make Follicle Unit Extraction a production-line procedure, some clinics allow non-licensed personnel to perform FUE graft extractions. In some parts of the United States, it is actually illegal for non-licensed personnel to perform the Body Hair Transplantation on their own. Another thing that patients must look out for is if the clinic is using a mass production machine to virtually vacuum out the graft-literally air-drying the grafts to death in the hair restoration process. These vacuumed grafts are transported at high speeds through tubes, leading to a receptacle. The process is harmful to the integrity of the grafts and risking viability in the hair transplant process.

Although you may be suffering from hair loss, do your research before settling for a surgeon to perform your fue hair restoration. At DermHair Clinic, Dr. Umar subscribes to the philosophy that all Follicular Unit Extraction is a surgical procedure and a licensed personnel performs the Body Hair Transplantation. If you are a prospective hair restoration patient researching a Follicular Unit Extraction-type procedure, ask your clinic about the qualifications and licensure of the personnel extracting your grafts as well as the type of machine they are using to treat your hair loss. Be proactive. More importantly, you can come see Dr. Umar at DermHair and he will assure you that you are receiving the best possible hair transplant treatment.

If Propecia Does Not Work…

August 11th, 2010

When men begin to suffer from hair loss, one product they use is Propecia. Propecia is a finasteride that is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss, also known as androgenic alopecia. Male pattern hair loss or baldness is a common condition for men whose hair start to thin on their scalp. Oftentimes, male pattern hair loss can lead to a receding hairline or balding on the top of the head.

For those who choose not to have hair transplants such as Dr. Umar’s Body Hair Transplant yet, Propecia is applied on the vortex and the anterior mid-scalp area. Working as a hair restoration product, it stops hair loss by preventing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. Baldness typically results from dihydrotestosterone interacting with the hair follicles that are genetically vulnerable to the effects. DHT binds with the receptor sites of the vulnerable follicles and disrupts the follicles’ ability to produce healthy hair gradually, which results in baldness in the affected areas. Therefore, DHT is essentially the active ingredient or catalyst for the hair loss process. As an alternative for hair transplants, Propecia works by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone into DHT and so, by reducing the amount of DHT present n the scalp. The thinning process is then slowed and sometimes even reversed.

Propecia does slow down the hair loss process and stimulates new hair growth for those with early to moderate degrees of hair loss and baldness. For most men, Propecia actually does its job in hair restoration by increasing the number of scalp hairs by filling in the thin or balding areas of the scalp. But sometimes Propecia is not enough-some men have to resort to hair transplants such as the Body Hair Transplant.

Dr. Umar at DermHair Clinic has a number of patients, who after a few years of using Propecia, end up getting hair transplants to restore their hair. In particular, the Body Hair Transplant procedure that Dr. Umar has created is the most effective. Being minimally invasive and scar-free, the new form of hair restoration is becoming more and more popular amongst men suffering from hair loss and baldness. Come by and Dr. Umar will assess what is the best possible treatment for you.

The Truth About Strip Surgery Hair Transplantation Procedure

August 10th, 2010

The hair loss patient is often concerned about his receding hairline. When considering hair restoration surgery as a solution the patient is often at a disadvantage being poorly informed.

The majority of hair restora

Strip Surgery Scar
Strip Surgery Scar: Before

tion clinic perform only the strip method of hair restoration whereby, a strip of flesh is cut out from the back and sides of the head resulting necessarily in a linear scar that typically runs from ear to ear in the back and side of the head. Often, the patient is told at consultation which is typically done by a “consultant” that might not be a medically licensed that the strip scar is “paper thin”. Thus, the patient is either

not informed or chooses not to recognize the possibility of widening of the scar and the life-long inconveniences the strip surgery portends. Ultimately, the patient with a wide strip scar will have to keep his hair long in order to avoid having the scar exposed, and will remain ever conscious of the wind and water. Swimming is often avoided for this same reason. In addition, patients are often asked by the FUT strip surgery proponents, “Why have a transplant if only to cut the hair short?”  This red herring of a statement neglects the fact that to the individual with thinning hair, keeping a short hair cut is key.

Cutting the hair on the sides and back reduces the contrast in density between the back-sides and the thinning top. With shorter haircuts, the need for more grafts on the top of the head is minimized. In contrast, keeping a long and dense hair on the side and back maximizes the appearance of baldness on the top and the patient is thus forced to require even more and more hair transplants to increase density to the top in an attempt to match the density of the side and back of the head. For example, the patient in this photo had undergone the follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) at a clinic in Canada. While the result of the surgery in the recipient area was fine, it still limited his options of keeping his hair short, since he was unable to do so without having the strip surgery scar show. Therefore, Dr. Umar removed the appearance of the hair transplant scar that was vexing the patient greatly by using 1000 beard derived grafts by the process of FUE-SFET.

If you have a hair transplant scar from a hair restoration procedure using the follicular unit strip surgery method, you may be caught in this vicious cycle of the strip surgery scar and density issues. Fortunately, with the advent of the Follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure, the patient can now avoid the problem of linear scars. Dr. Umar is in the forefront of the FUE procedure as well as its advanced form called body hair transplantation procedure (BHT). Dr. Umar has been using facial hair for the purpose of transplantation by using his Single Follicle Extraction

and Transfer (SFET) for half a decade after having pioneered the process and inventing special tools for the procedure. He has perfected the FUE-SFET-BHT process with which he has produced results such as which are shown in the picture at his Los Angeles California DermHair Clinic office in Redondo Beach.
