The last of the above list is certainly not least. Carefully reviewing the hair transplant videos of prior patients is perhaps one of the most important things you can do to guarantee that you are choosing a surgeon who:

  • Has experience
  • Is talented
  • Is respected in his field
  • Has enduring success rates
  • Has performed his specialty on a variety of cases (making his skill set versatile)
  • Is vouched for by his patients

WHY VIDEO IS THE BEST WAY TO ASSESS A HAIR TRANSPLANT RESULT

Though photos make for a good preliminary resource, telltale hair transplant videos are the final say in the legitimacy of a surgeon’s skill. A video, being live motion, can capture many more relevant factors than a still photograph. Additional reasons why hair restoration videos are superior testimony:

  • They are less subject to manipulation. Photographs can be taken in flattering lighting and photo-shopped for maximum enhancement, while it is much more difficult to manipulate video.
  • In video, you can view the implanted hair as truly permanent and malleable by the doctor combing through it, touching it, or parting it to show its durability and density. With this, you also get views of the scalp and can see any evident scarring.
  • Hair transplant videos feature the patient, live. You can hear his voice, see his face (sometimes), and read his body language. You get a real sense of his satisfaction with the procedure and whether or not he’d recommend this surgeon.
  • Rather than a single view of the result, you get a 360-degree assessment. A good clinic—with nothing to hide—will show an entire, uninterrupted rotation of the head so you know there are no tricks. Only pure, honest results.

BEWARE: WHAT TO BE CAUTIOUS OF WHEN ASSESSING VIDEO RESULTS

Although hair transplant videos are one of the best resources you have in appraising a surgeon, there are still a few things to be wary of when viewing them.

    • Beware of videos that only show limited views and snippets. A video that is edited down to two-second jump cuts is no more valuable than a series of photographs.
    • Beware of hair transplant videos that seem to show everything except the unflattering views. For example, a crown restoration result will be most vulnerable to straight-on rear views or bird’s-eye views of the head. If the surgeon claims to have restored the patient’s crown, make sure you get a good straight-on view of the crown!
    • Beware of professionally made videos. These are the ones that will distract with fancy cross-fades, obsequious lighting, and deceitful editing tactics.
