A native of Nigeria, Dr. Umar trained as a surgeon at the UniMaid College of Medical Sciences. Dr. Umar left his practice as a surgeon after 4 years to expand his knowledge of medicine in the United States. Dr. Umar completed his first residency training in Internal Medicine at the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Umar’s work and research in the field of infectious disease was recognized with a first place award from the Long Island Infectious Diseases (LIDS) fellows’ competition and invitation to present at the 1998 International AIDS conference in Geneva, Switzerland . He was again honored to chair a session at the International AIDS conference in Durban South Africa in July 2000.

With his advanced training, love of research and interest in a natural process for hair restoration, Dr. Umar followed his passion: the art and science of hair transplantation. Having personally experienced the devastating consequences of a botched hair transplant surgery himself, Dr. Umar set out to find a solution by first comparing different procedures for hair restoration in the United States and abroad. He focussed on alternatives to the painful surgery and limitations of traditional treatments for hair replacement. Many alternative treatments were still in the developmental stages and were flawed, so he began to design a new, minimally invasive, transplant procedure.

Dr. Umar spent the next two years focusing on the invention and design of tools and techniques which allowed for the successful, knife-free, natural replacement for hair loss. The result is a breakthrough in the field of hair transplantation, The Umar Procedure for single follicle extraction and transfer (SFET). This state-of-the-art treatment results in rapid healing rates and better overall yield and growth of transplanted hair follicles on the scalp.

The Umar Procedure is a minimally invasive treatment that requires no knives, strip surgery or stitches. Scarring and downtime are minimized. Best of all, because the procedure allows for the use of body hair, the number of transplantable hair is greatly increased. The newly transplanted hair follicles grow in a natural pattern from the first treatment. Typically, patients’ returns to a normal life immediately and many have no need to cover their head with a hat ever again.

Dr. Umar is well published in respected Journals of Dermatology and General Medicine and presents at national and international conferences. A listing of articles is available for review on the website.
