This patient had undergone a previous hair transplant using “strip harvesting.” The result was two terrible strip scars. Using body hair transplantation with FUE technology, Dr. Umar moved 1200 hairs follicles to cover the strip scar. One of the many advantages of body hair transplantation is that it makes the pool of donor hair virtually limitless. And a great benefit of FUE technology is that there is no visible scarring.

Now, this patient’s incredible results completely camouflage his strip scar. Watch this video to see how body hair transplantation using FUE technology could be your solution.

This African American hair loss patient had a previous “strip harvesting” transplant and FUE hair transplant. One procedure left him with a strip surgery scar, and the other with insubstantial growth after 1 year. African American hair loss, being as prevalent as within any other ethnicity, is correctable via Dr. Umar’s FUE hair transplant method. Even a strip surgery scar can be vastly improved. Dispersing a total of 1200 grafts to the crown, hairline, and strip surgery scar, Dr. Umar eliminated the patient’s hair loss concerns.

This video shows results of an FUE hair transplant for African American hair loss.

The outdated hair transplant method of “strip harvesting” leaves those who have endured it with no appreciable difference in hair restoration, along with an unsightly scar to remind them of the failed effort. This scarring also greatly reduces their personal style choices, because it is all but impossible to sport a tight crew cut when you need your hair to hide the scars.

This patient did what we at DermHair Clinic have seen many do – resort to tattoos in a desperate attempt to hide the scars left by “strip harvesting.” Dr. Umar helped him by using the patient’s body hair (body hair to head transplant) to camouflage the scar, transplanting 1,200 individual hair follicles to the problem area.

Was he happy? Take a look at the “before” and “after” in the video to decide!

A harsh hairline is common with the older strip method of hair transplantation because it uses hair from the middle and back of your head, which is thickest. This patient has had a good quality hair transplant from a top clinic specializing in the older strip method, but wanted a softer hairline.

Dr. Umar used 1,000 grafts from the nape of the patient’s neck and head to create a more natural look through Follicular Unit Extraction. In the video below you can see the results about one year later.

This video follows the emotional journey of a hair transplant repair patient; what he underwent during his research for a better hair transplantation. The travail of a hair loss victim is something that is seldom addressed by the providers of hair transplantation and by those who are close to the patient. Emotional turmoil is definitely at play in the mind of a hair transplant patient when they begin to consider and research the hair transplant procedure and will persist to the time of the surgery and in the immediate periods after the surgery before the seeing the results. Even if the hair transplant outcomes were a success, the emotional stresses of adjusting to a new life devoid of the worries about hair loss takes time to unravel.

The hair loss patient is often concerned about his receding hairline. When considering hair restoration surgery as a solution the patient is often at a disadvantage being poorly informed.

Strip Surgery Scar: Before

The majority of hair restoration clinic perform only the strip method of hair restoration whereby, a strip of flesh is cut out from the back and sides of the head resulting necessarily in a linear scar that typically runs from ear to ear in the back and side of the head. Often, the patient is told at consultation which is typically done by a “consultant” that might not be a medically licensed that the strip scar is “paper thin”. Thus, the patient is either

not informed or chooses not to recognize the possibility of widening of the scar and the life-long inconveniences the strip surgery portends. Ultimately, the patient with a wide strip scar will have to keep his hair long in order to avoid having the scar exposed, and will remain ever conscious of the wind and water. Swimming is often avoided for this same reason. In addition, patients are often asked by the FUT strip surgery proponents, “Why have a transplant if only to cut the hair short?” This red herring of a statement neglects the fact that to the individual with thinning hair, keeping a short hair cut is key.

Cutting the hair on the sides and back reduces the contrast in density between the back-sides and the thinning top. With shorter haircuts, the need for more grafts on the top of the head is minimized. In contrast, keeping a long and dense hair on the side and back maximizes the appearance of baldness on the top and the patient is thus forced to require even more and more hair transplants to increase density to the top in an attempt to match the density of the side and back of the head. For example, the patient in this photo had undergone the follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) at a clinic in Canada. While the result of the surgery in the recipient area was fine, it still limited his options of keeping his hair short, since he was unable to do so without having the strip surgery scar show. Therefore, Dr. Umar removed the appearance of the hair transplant scar that was vexing the patient greatly by using 1000 beard derived grafts by the process of FUE-SFET.

Strip Surgery Scar: After Repair

If you have a hair transplant scar from a hair restoration procedure using the follicular unit strip surgery method, you may be caught in this vicious cycle of the strip surgery scar and density issues. Fortunately, with the advent of the Follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure, the patient can now avoid the problem of linear scars. Dr. Umar is in the forefront of the FUE procedure as well as its advanced form called body hair transplantation procedure (BHT). Dr. Umar has been using facial hair for the purpose of transplantation by using his Single Follicle Extraction and Transfer (SFET) for half a decade after having pioneered the process and inventing special tools for the procedure. He has perfected the FUE-SFET-BHT process with which he has produced results such as which are shown in the picture at his Los Angeles California DermHair Clinic office in Redondo Beach.
