He’d already had another hair transplant previously, and the results were subpar, at best. His receding hairline was still apparent, and the crown hair loss was evident as well. Willing to take another shot at hair transplant, the patient presented to Dr. Umar, asking for an advanced hairline and more density in the crown using FUE hair restoration.

Dr. Umar harvested a total of 2300 FUE grafts. 1800 grafts were derived from the head and nape to fill the temple points and construct a new hairline. Only 500 grafts were needed to add the right amount of density to the crown. Eleven months after the procedure, the patient is completely satisfied. He now has a youthful, natural-looking hairline and a denser crown area.

Dr. Umar’s FUE hair restoration not only restored the patient’s hair, but also his faith in the ability of hair transplant. He says of his experience with DermHair Clinic, “If you’re going to go anywhere to get a hair transplant, this is where you want to go.”

A previous strip harvesting procedure bore little yield for this patient, and created an apparent linear scar on his posterior scalp. He presented to Dr. Umar to have his yet-receding hairline advanced and thickened, and to cover the strip scar.

Dr. Umar removed 1500 head and nape grafts using his advanced uGraft method of FUE hair transplant. The results of this second procedure, now at only 7 months with more growth to come, are exactly what the patient was looking for: an advanced hairline and the linear scar concealed. With regard to the recovery time of the two surgeries compared, the patient remarked that strip harvesting was “long,” with the linear wound resulting in an unwanted scar. FUE, he commented, was “two weeks of redness [and] a couple ingrown hairs.”

The patient said of his outcome, “I couldn’t be happier, honestly.” Watch the video of his results, before and after the FUE procedure.

This patient presented to Dr. Umar with almost an entirely bald crown. His hair loss was due to severe male pattern baldness. He had no prior hair transplant surgeries.

This excessive degree of hair loss called for the use of non-head hair. Thus, Dr. Umar transplanted used FUE hair transplant to move 8,000 grafts from the patient’s beard (and some from donor areas on the head) to the recipient site. One year later, the results showed great yield, so the patient returned to Dr. Umar for even more density. This second FUE hair transplant added 4,000 grafts to the patient’s balding area.

The results of this update come six months post-second surgery. Photos have been supplied directly from the patient.

Check out the video of this patient post-first surgery.

This patient developed acne keloidalis nuchae, a condition affecting of the hair follicles at the back of the head and/or nape of the neck. Though a rare ailment with an unknown pathology, it is most commonly seen in African American males. Physicians believe it may be caused by recurrent friction (frequent among those with extremely short haircuts) and consider it the leading cause of cicatricial alopecia—also known as scarring alopecia.

AKN starts out appearing as small razor bumps and grows into keloid-like plaques. These masses cause permanent scarring and hair loss in the area affected. Surgical excision is the only cure for acne keloidalis nuchae.

After having the condition surgically removed once before, this patient’s AKN returned, in addition to surgical scars. He consulted Dr. Umar for a second surgery, hoping to get rid of the lumps and the scarring permanently. Five months after this second procedure, the excision is proving successful, with minimized scarring. The patient says that his wound has mended quickly and keeps improving.

Watch the video of this patient’s acne keloidalis nuchae before and after results.

The strip harvesting procedure didn’t get him the outcome he wanted. One year after an FUE procedure, which transplanted several thousand grafts, this patient still didn’t have the yield he desired. His frontal scalp, namely his temple points and hairline, were still noticeably thin. In addition, he had a strip scar along his mid-rear scalp that he wanted gone. A hair transplant repair was the only option.

Dr. Umar’s FUE SFET technique restored this patient to a youthful, natural-looking frontal scalp and hairline. By transplanting 2500 head hair grafts and 350 beard hair grafts, Dr. Umar added density to the temple points and hairline, while also refining the hairline with nape hair. The 350 facial hair grafts were implanted strictly on the linear scar to supply sufficient camouflage.

Four years post-hair transplant repair with Dr. Umar, the patient is incredibly happy with his results. The long-term yield of the new hair has surpassed his expectations. Check out the video detailing his FUE hair transplant repair journey.

This patient was experiencing thinning from his hairline, across his mid-front scalp, to his crown. He wanted to add density, but only a moderate amount because he knew he would keep a short buzz haircut in the future.

Using his FUE SFET procedure, Dr. Umar extracted 3,000 grafts from the head and nape of the patient’s neck. He optimized this small number of grafts by adding the amount of density desired by the patient, with nape hairs specifically used to advance the hairline forward while keeping it soft. This patient can keep his hair short after the follicular unit extraction hair transplant because it avoids the strip scar. Since he does keep his hair short, he gets a fuller appearance with fewer grafts. Shorter hair cuts mean that even less densely packed follicular units contribute the shadow effect that creates the illusion of thicker hair. This, combined with a defined hairline, makes him a person who keeps his hair short because he wants to, not because he is trying to conceal progressive thinning. “I’m satisfied,” the patient says of his results ten months post-surgery, “I’m happy with it.”

Watch this video of the patient’s before and after to see if follicular unit extraction might be your solution to adding natural-looking density.

The aftermath of a scalp reduction and a decades-old punch graft procedure deeply dissatisfied this severely bald repair patient. These previous surgeries had left him with a pluggy hairline and teams of large punch scars riddling the back of his scalp. Adding insult to injury, his pattern baldness had continued to advance over the years, leaving him with severe hair loss and exposed scarring.

He had insufficient head donor hair, thus body hair to head transplant would be his only respite. Dr. Umar removed 5500 FUE grafts in all, from the arms, legs, stomach, and primarily the chest and beard. His hairline is refined, the scars concealed, and the thinness filled in.

Previous scalp reductions and hair transplant procedures gave this patient a series of scars and a worsened state of baldness. He presented to DermHair Clinic after hearing about Dr. Umar’s work with advanced FUE and facial hair transplant.

The patient wanted his front, middle, and crown filled in to not only restore hair, but also to cover up the obvious scarring, which was showing more as his pattern baldness progressed. Even his use of the powder concealer Toppik was no longer working. This was due to the fact that he had become severely bald and even lacked sufficient head donor hair for a successful hair transplant. Non-head hair would have to be used to achieve his goal.

Dr. Umar, using a niche of body hair transplant called facial hair transplant, grafted 3000 follicular units derived only from the beard. As the images and before and after video reveal, it was enough to fill the patient’s scalp as he’d desired and mask the old surgical scars. The patient is extremely satisfied with the results and no longer uses Toppik.

With the patient lacking sufficient head donor hair, the first phase enlisted body hair transplant, largely using beard and chest hair, along with some hair from the head and nape of his neck. Dr. Umar transplanted a total of 9,000 grafts.

The results pictured here are from the second phase of surgery, for which Dr. Umar used 5,000 grafts again from the beard and chest. He also used some of the chest grafts to refine the patient’s eyebrows. If you are interested in repair of a previous hair transplant surgery, don’t hesitate to contact DermHair Clinic for a free consultation.

Acne keloidalis nuchae—AKN—is a condition that starts as papules and pustules in the hair follicle and manifests in inflamed and painful keloidlike lesions, developing on the occipital scalp and/or rear neck. It sometimes appears as razor bumps on the back of the head at first. This uncomfortable mass of tissue created by AKN has no relation to acne vulgaris but, rather, is a type of chronic folliculitis. Where the skin is distressed by the condition, there is also a disruption of the normal growth of hair. For this reason, AKN is considered a cause of cicatricial alopecia.

The featured patient battled with AKN for six years, too embarrassed during that time to regularly see a barber or even cut his hair short as an attempt to conceal the condition. He tried oral medications for six months, but saw no progress, thus decided something more aggressive needed to be done to get the results he wanted.

He presented to Dr. Umar for a surgical excision of the affected area. Five months after the operation, there is no trace of AKN, and scarring is minimal. Watch the video about this patient’s AKN surgery and recovery.
