The trick of concealing thinning hairwithout surgery, hats or hairpieces has become a forte amongst Hollywood make up artists. Under the limelight, no red carpet star would suffer the embarrassment of thinning hair. Actors, actresses, singers, and the like have been hiding their thinning hair with the use of concealment products. From powders to lotions, these instantly gratifying products mimic the color and consistency of real hair to give thinning hair the illusion of fullness. The most recognized commercial brands include:

A bottle of Toppik.

Toppik: a keratin-based microfiber powder that bonds to the thinning hair.

DermMatch: a powder applied by rubbing it in and brushing it through the thinning hair.

COUVRé: a lotion compound rubbed in to the area of thinning hair.

Nanogen: similar to Toppik, a keratin-based microfiber powder that attaches to the thinning hair.

Drawbacks Of These Products

While these products may fool the casual onlooker, there are drawbacks to using them:

These cosmetics are a temporary solution to thinning hair.

They are NOT water, wind, and sweat resistant. These elements result in the concealer flowing down the forehead like black paint, much to the embarrassment of the user.

They may appear “off” when in direct sunlight.

Compromising one’s daily physical appearance to such extent may become demoralizing.

As thinning hair progresses and the balding area widens, the concealer becomes more dominant than the actual hair. Hence looking obvious to the casual observer, the area looks painted on. Think Jason Alexander in “Shallow Hal.”

Over time, these concealers can cake onto the scalp.

The falseness of such a cosmetic may compromise one’s level of day-to-day comfort and confidence.

The hair must remain untouched while the product is in use. The user dreads the prospect of a loved one running their fingers through the hair.

The concealer becomes a nuisance about the house, staining pillows and bed ware.

Body Hair Transplant – BHT To The Rescue

Six years ago, Dr. Umar realized that finer body hair could be used in body hair transplant - BHT, to fill in the thinning hair of the scalp permanently. BHT using fine hair would achieve the same subtle filling effect of the cosmetic concealers, but with real, natural hair that lasts. “It grows like and acts like your hair because it is your hair,” says Dr. Umar, board certified hair transplant surgeon and pioneer of BHT. Generally, finer quality, vellus hair is not suitable for giving density. However, in skilled hands, BHT using thinner caliber body hair follicles can promote growth and add fullness to the area of thinning hair. The result is the same gratification of cosmetic concealers, like Toppik, without any of the drawbacks. Dr. Umar demonstrated this in a BHT test procedure conducted in 2006, producing the first incontrovertible evidence of:

The ability of BHT to grow even finer body hair with sufficient yield. This is contrary to widely held belief that only robust body hair grows. Dr. Umar has never held this belief. Finer hair does grow, but it has to be done correctly and be used appropriately.

When finer body hair is added to an area of thinning hair, a toppik-like effect is achieved, but with permanence and authenticity, because it’s real hair.

The critics who said BHT using finer follicles has no place in the treatment of hair loss were wrong. Thickness of hair is not the defining criteria in BHT and even patients with finer body hair could benefit. So stop shaking and dusting that can of powder over your thinning hair. Instead, contact Dr. Umar for a free online consultation about BHT—the technology that means you may never again “sprinkle on” your hair in the morning.

Strip surgery is one of the most ineffective ways to restore hair loss. It involves strip mining hair from the sides and the back of the head for transplant to the problem area, but it leaves scarring and lasting pain in its wake. Too, it often leaves you in need of more surgery when the strip method fails to provide a satisfactory solution to your hair loss.

The patient featured in this video came to Dr. Umar after two different clinics left him with painful strip scars along the side and back of his head. Using the Single Follicle Extraction and Transfer procedure to transplant hair from the patient’s beard into his head, Dr. Umar was able to improve the appearance of the scar.

Yes!

Using Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), a minimally invasive procedure that does away with outdated approaches to hair transplant by providing a true solution instead of an illusion of restored hair. No scalpels, strip mining or stitches are used in this approach, which leaves the patient free of scars and on the path back to self-esteem.

Through FUE, donor hair is moved in natural follicle groupings one at a time from the donor areas anywhere on the head, face or body to the restoration area, leaving a natural look with full coverage and no scarring. Transplanted hairs begin to take root and grow continuously over your lifetime. It also gives you maximum flexibility to express your personal style; hair restored with FUE can be comfortably worn short or long.

This approach is a great advance over the traditional strip surgery, which usually requires cutting strips of flesh from the back and side of the head, resulting in a linear scar that can widen overtime, and forcing you to continually find ways to hide it. The older method also limits the donor supply to 5,000-7,000 hair follicles, a huge waste.

Typically, there are no signs of surgery within a week of the Follicular Unit Extraction procedure.

Dr. Umar is a pioneer in FUE, which was first documented in medical reports by Rassman and Bernstein in 2005. If you are someone who is suffering from continuous hair loss due to a previous hair transplant, or have scarring from a failed transplant effort, you may be someone who is caught in the vicious cycle of traditional strip surgery hair transplants. It’s time to look into other options.

Have more questions about reliable hair transplant options? Contact Dr. Umar for a free online consultation today.

Yes!

Using Follicular Unit Extraction, hair follicles can be removed from the beard or elsewhere on the body one at a time, and used to restore hair to balding areas on your head. All of your body hair can be used in this method – your chest, back, stomach area, legs, arms, armpit and pubic areas. It is a great technique to use in cases where there’s not enough donor hair on the head available for transplant. With this innovative procedure, even the most severely bald individual can have a full head of hair restored.

As you seek options for your hair transplant needs, it is critical that you do your research to ensure that the doctor you select is qualified. Follicular Unit Extraction is a surgical procedure demanding delicacy and skill, and must be done by an experienced, licensed medical doctor. It’s also important that you find a doctor who will cater to your needs and make you feel as comfortable as possible.
Dr. Umar is the top BHT hair restoration surgeon in the world, and he has performed surgeries that produced results that other clinic or doctor have written off as impossible.

The patient turned to Dr. Umar after multiple failed transplant efforts were done at other clinics using outdated techniques. The result was an unnatural, harsh hairline. Using advanced FUE hair transplant, in 2006. Dr. Umar grafted 1,000 hairs from the man’s leg to his head to create a natural, subtle look.

Most men experience hair loss as they age and actually many women also experience hair thinning. So why does this happen and is there anything we can do about it?

Baldness is a typical phenomenon that accompanies growing older. In addition, stress is one of the top reasons that affect hair growth in both men and women. Pollution, modified and processed foods also affect how the body functions and causes hair loss. It is recommended to eat healthy, nutritious organic foods. Hormone changes in men and women are the most inevitable factor that affects both genders. The primary cause of male hair loss is the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT.) The receptors in the scalp specifically react to that particular hormone, which leads to the hair becoming thinner until it is completely bald. In women, the hormones are responsible as well, but in different stages of life. For example, when women are pregnant it is common that they will experience hairs to fall out. This is a temporary hair loss, because once woman stops breast feeding and her body goes back to “normal” hormone stage, the hair grows back. However, it is not the case when women go through menopause or have hormonal imbalance. In fact, 40% of hair loss in women is true primarily for this reason. Most men experience hair loss as they age, but many women also experience hair thinning as they age.

There are different types of hair loss, such as sudden hair loss. Sudden hair loss is rather different but worth mentioning. Some people can experience a type of alopecia where hair loss is very sudden. This can be due to a toxin (e.g. chemotherapy), mental trauma or other medical disorders. If you have very sudden hair loss in clumps then you should definitely visit a doctor. Another type of hair loss is gradual hair loss, which is hair loss that is gradual over a period of years. This is most common in men due to the presence of testosterone and its by-products. It can also occur in women but usually only causes hair thinning and is complicated by other factors. Male Pattern Baldness is another reason a man goes bald in the “W” shaped pattern. What happens is that the testosterone by-product named “DHT” causes the hair follicles to lose nutrition with time. Year after year, the hairs get thinner and thinner with each new cycle until eventually the follicles cannot produce any more hairs.

There are several causes that trigger hairs to fall out. The good news, there are also many ways to prevent hair loss and even reverse its effects for hair restoration. However, the best technique to efficiently treat this illness is with medical hair restoration, such as Body Hair Transplantation, which is a procedure that has become increasingly popular. With his breakthrough procedure in BHT, (Umar Procedure), Dr Umar is able to transplant hair from various parts of the body to the balding areas of the head.

The patient presented in this photo has a history of prior Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Body Hair Transplantation (BHT) hair restoration procedures performed upon him at another facility. These previous surgeries of his focused mainly on restoring his hairline, frontal scalp and crown. However, the patient was not happy with the esthetic results of the outcome.

Therefore, though intensive research and hearing recommendations, the patient decided that Dr. Umar was the best choice of hair surgeon to perform the repair of his past hair transplants. He wanted his hairline softened and the shape and direction streamlined to his taste. The aim was to achieve a subtle but evident change in the hairline. He also wanted hair density added to his mid scalp area.

Dr. Umar performed 3,000 grafts upon the patient using the FUE-BHT method under the Single Follicle Extraction and Transfer (SFET) hair restoration technique.

The breakdown of the donor sources were as follows:

Head donor: 1293

Nape: 597

Lower abdomen and upper pubic areas: 1115

This procedure highlights the importance of the aesthetic and artistic expertise of the hair restoration facility and hair restoration surgeon you choose. Hair transplantation depends heavily on medical science and is its own way is a form of art. The results this patient achieved also highlight the role of nape hair in the refinement of hairlines. The utilization of nape hair as donor hair is something that the hair restoration community has neglected since its inceptions, leading to entrenched paradigms that are not always evidence based. The front of a thinning hairline should be very soft, and this softness is rarely achievable by using traditional head donor hair, which are usually thicker and less ideal for the task even if they are single hair follicles, and thus they tend to create an artificial solid line of hair which could look harsh and artificial in real life. Therefore, the soft texture of nape hair makes it the most effective form of donor hair to create the most natural looking hairline. This makes it ideal for the creation of softer looking hairlines, while avoiding the harsh artificial look that is often the result of hairline transplants done by traditional methods.

Dr. Umar makes it possible for hairlines to be reconstructed with nape hair though his process of SFET-FUE-BHT because FUE Hair Transplant avoids the problem of creating a linear scar, which is the main issue that results from strip surgery.
